What it’s like for people inside the aged care system Only around one-quarter of the people living in a residential aged care facility or receiving a home care package feel that their care needs are always met, according to new surveys by the National Ageing Research Institute (NARI). The share of people with care needs at least ‘mostly’ met is 39.0% in residential care and 32.5% in home care. Care needs are met only ‘sometimes’, ‘rarely’ or ‘never’ for 33.4% of people in residential care and 44.1% in-home care. The share of people with care needs met ‘sometimes’, rarely’ or ‘never’ are even higher among people who use aged care respite services.  Read more

Responses to Counsel Assisting’s final submissions close on 12 November 2020

Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety UPDATE
Information on how to provide a response In the Final Hearing Senior Counsel Assisting, Peter Gray QC and Peter Rozen QC, presented submissions on behalf of the Counsel Assisting team over two days. Counsel Assisting have also published final written submissions, which include 124 proposed recommendations and an annexure on the timing of implementation of these proposed recommendations. Any interested person may provide a response to Counsel Assisting’s final submissions and other matters arising at the hearing, including remarks made by Commissioners. Interim report

The Interim Report of the Royal Commission into Aged Care was handed to the Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) on 31 October 2019, and tabled in Parliament that day. Here
